Land & Horse Intensives

An intensive is a concentrated block of therapeutic time — one to three days — designed to go deeper than the weekly session structure allows. You step out of your life, come to the land, and do the work without interruption.

This experience is held outdoors, at a ranch 30 minutes outside of Durango, among the ponderosa pines, meadows, hills, and quiet. You will spend time with the land and a herd of three horses working on your specific goals and desires.

Why nature-based work? Why horses?

Most therapeutic work happens indoors, within the narrow bandwidth of talking and thinking. That works — to a point. But there is a layer of human experience that talk alone doesn't reach: the body's stored patterns, the nervous system's chronic contractions, the instincts and intuitions that go quiet under the pressure of ordinary life.

Nature-based therapy works from the understanding that humans are not separate from the natural world — we are part of it. Our nervous systems evolved in relationship with the land, with animals, with cycles of rest and aliveness. When that connection is severed, something in us goes offline. Women in particular have been conditioned to override their instincts, to shrink their knowing, to be endlessly productive and legible to others. Disconnection from the body, from desire, from a clear sense of self — these are not personal failures. They are the predictable result of a culture that has asked women to be something other than what they are.

The land and the horses offer something different. They don't respond to performance. They respond to what's actually happening — in your body, in your nervous system, in the quality of your presence. Working with them creates contact with parts of yourself that don't surface in an office.

Horses are social animals with a finely attuned capacity to sense what's happening in the nervous system of the person in front of them. They don't respond to what you intend — they respond to what's true. That makes them an unusually precise mirror.

What you're working with

The work is relational and experiential. You'll make contact with the horses in the pasture and arena — we may work on haltering, leading, grooming, or moving together — and we work with whatever arises. Not as metaphor. As direct experience. My work is informed by gestalt equine psychotherapy, which means we track what's happening in real time and work with it directly.

Each intensive is shaped around the individual. The modalities I draw from are gestalt therapy, somatic therapy, and attachment theory. The format follows what the work requires.

  • Relational work with the herd — contact, groundwork, presence

  • Time with the land — wanders, rituals, nature connection practices

  • Somatic and gestalt processing

  • Exploration of attachment patterns and relational dynamics

  • Nervous system regulation and embodied awareness

  • Reflection, journaling, integration

Who this is for

Women who have a sense that something is off, but can't get traction on it in ordinary life. Often high-functioning. Often articulate. Often exhausted in a way that doesn't show.

  • You've lost track of what you actually want

  • You know your patterns — in relationships, in how you show up — but knowing hasn't changed them

  • You're disconnected from your body, your instincts, or your own authority

  • You've been accommodating other people for so long you're not sure who you are without it

  • You want to understand yourself more deeply, not just manage yourself more effectively

This work is open to current clients and women coming for the first time. Durango draws visitors from across the country — many women build a few days of travel around the intensive.
